John Douglas. JOHN DOUGLAS. Poems. Poetry. POEMS. POETRY. Poems about Birmingham. Poems about old Birmingham. Songs about Birmingham. Songs about old Birmingham. John Douglas Poems. John Douglas poet. Carl Chin. Carl Chinn. Birmingham City Center. Summer Lane Birmingham. Old Summer Lane. A Walk Down Summer Lane. How to write poetry. How to write poems. How to write books. Become a writer. How to get published. The majority of the poems, songs and song-poems are taken from my book: Ballads
Of Old Brum - the cover of which is reproduced on the left. Only 500 were produced
in 1981 and sold out within three days. Each copy is now a collector`s item.
The same can be said for A Walk Down Summer Lane which has recently been sold
on e Bay for £155.Also, "Roll on my dozen!" has almost sold out the fourth
edition and fetching prices far in excess of the original cost. There will be
no more editions.H.M.S. GANGES, (Tales of the T.R.O.G.`s) is still available. The
site contains the songs: Saturday Night In The Bull Ring, Spaghetti Junction
and many more, mainly about Birmingham, but taking in other places such as H.M.S.
Ganges where I joined as a Boy Signalman at the age of 16, on the 9th September,
1947. It contains a couple of poems and songs about naval life, some of which
will only be understood by ex-matelots, or those who understand `Jack-speak,`
peculiar only to the R.N.Some of the poems are contained in my books, namely:
A Walk Down Summer Lane, it`s sequel: From Summer Lane, H.M.S. Ganges, "Roll
on my dozen!" and other publications.Certain poems contain `voice-additions,`
and two of the songs contain accompaniment in the form of music and song: Saturday
Night in the Bull-Ring and Memories. There may be others added later.Welcome
to my website, and thanks for visiting - I hope you enjoy it. John Douglas |
